Why Following Up On Your Leads Can Be A Waste Of Time
To many network marketing representatives, obtaining and following up on leads is one of the most important aspects of their business. Of course, this is not a bad plan, but just how important is it to follow up on these network marketing leads? There are some marketing leaders that are claiming that these leads are not as important as you might think. In the following article, we will review more about following up on network marketing leads.
Network marketing leaders and specialists are starting to somewhat downplay the importance of network marketing leads for several reasons. While these leaders still support following up on some leads, they are mostly trying to convey a point that leads are not always followed properly by newcomers to network marketing and that many of these newcomers abuse their leads.
For instance, many people new to network marketing get into a phase where they will want to chase every lead. Some new marketers will repeatedly call and leave several messages for a lead they are following. This is not only a waste of time for the network marketer for the most part, it is also annoying for the person who is the lead and potential customer. Most network marketing leaders suggest that you call a lead no more than three times without getting an answer and do not leave messages. If you do leave a message, make sure it is only one and do not further disturb that lead until they have contacted you.
Many network marketing leaders also claim that a newcomer to this business can potentially hurt their own business when they actually get into the interview process with a lead. This is because most of them are not initially that great with facilitating the interview process over the phone. If you are a newcomer and are still uneasy about talking with leads over the phone for any reason, you may want to only follow leads through email or the internet. Conveying the wrong message to leads over the phone or conveying an incomplete message is not only a waste of time, but it may potentially harm your business.
Network marketing leaders’ advice to newcomers in network marketing is to not chase your marketing leads, but work to get yourself to a place where they chase you. Hounding people about joining your business or purchasing your products is not the proper way to conduct business and it will only annoy your leads. Position yourself in this business as a teacher and expert on certain subjects that relate to you and your products or services. When you position yourself as a teacher, people will come to you. However, you must keep in mind that positioning yourself as a teacher may take some time, but will be well worth your efforts.
