What Is Attraction Marketing & Why Is It So Important?
The best salesman is a person who can sell a customer a product without the customer realizing he is being sold. In this day and age, no one likes the high pressure sales pitch so successful marketers have to find other ways to push their products, without being pushy. This is the reason you now see car dealerships being built with fancy lounges and coffee shops to improve the experience for their customers. High end department stores like Nordstroms are also building in added amenities like a café to make the store more attractive to shoppers.
Attraction marketing can work for home based businesses as well. The front door to your business is often your website so start by making it user friendly. Dress it up with fancy graphics and video where possible. Make sure that the content reads more like a magazine article than promotional literature so that readers aren’t turned off. Customer testimonials are a great way to introduce new people to your product and since the pitch isn’t coming from a salesman, the person doesn’t feel like he is being sold.
All home businesses need to use their websites to gather customer information; phone numbers and emails are essential to marketing your product but too many try to do it by forcing people to register and provide information they are reluctant to share. Attraction marketing calls for the businesses to be more subtle in their inquiries. Make it worthwhile for someone to give up that information by offering a free sample or a chance at winning something. Amazon.com is a perfect example of a site that understands what people want. It offers products with customer reviews that are positive and negative, in a way that is very easy to navigate. If you do see something you want to buy it is only one click away. There are no annoying pop ups or diversions to other areas in an attempt to sell you something else.
The underlying principle in attraction marketing is to make the process of buying a pleasurable one and one that the customer is likely to repeat. Your website, in addition to being a sales tool, should also be a resource for your customers that they will come to over and over again. You may not sell them something every time but if you can provide them with useful information related to your industry, they are more likely to return.

Ok everyone, just a quick post today, but I couldn’t resist. I’m soooooo excited about Perry Marshall’s new 2010 Definitive Guide To Google Adwords!
